Autumn Sage

The Story Of Our Family Vineyard

Autumn Sage - Southern Arizona Wine Country - Steve and Nancy Basila

A message from the owners, Stephen and Nancy Basila:

Like many Arizona natives, our family has fallen in love with the beauty, ambiance, and relaxation that Elgin, Arizona has to offer. It has a special place in our hearts, and we want to share this feeling with wine lovers from around the world.

Our property offers 30 acres of high desert bliss with 12,000 Sagrantino, Aglianico, Albariño, Barbera, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Counoise, Falanghina, Malvasia Bianca, Montepulciano, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, and Sauvignon Blanc grape vines. A winding road with a classic white picket fence will lead you to Autumn Sage Tasting Room, where you'll enjoy a unique tasting experience. Situated next to the vineyard, the tasting room has comfortable handicap accessible indoor and outdoor seating. Across from the tasting room are Autumn Park and Sagrantino's Patio, the center and focus for outdoor events.  Our outdoor space boasts a classic gazebo and dock overlying a fishing pond, perfect for weddings, anniversaries, festivals, and corporate events.  Sagrantino's Patio brings Tuscany to you with a hand-painted mural. There are picture-perfect mountain ranges in every direction with rolling hills that turn green during monsoon season.  Amidst our high desert scenery, you'll find autumn sage plants sprinkled throughout the property (unique to the Southwest).

Your travels won't be complete until you've visited our neighboring wineries and distilleries; a must-do for travelers and locals alike.  Life is better when it's shared with others.  Come and share it with us at beautiful Autumn Sage!

Our Vineyard Grapes

Sagrantino

Sagrantino is an Italian red wine grape not widely known outside of Montefalco Italy located in the region of Umbria. The sagrantino grape has one of the highest tannin levels in the world and gives a bold, burst of dark fruit that is sure to impress your palate. Autumn Sage is one of the largest producers of Sagrantino grapes in the US.

Aglianico

Arizona Winemaking

Aglianico is a red wine grape from the southern regions of Italy.  The grape produces wine with the trademark color of deep garnet.

Albariño

Albariño is a Spanish white grape from the Iberian Peninsula which is also part of Portugal.  This grape is known as Alvarinho in Portugal but it's the same grape varietal.

Barbera

Barbera is a red Italian wine known for its deep color, full body, and low tannins. Experience notes of strawberry and sour cherry, which pair well with charcuterie and cold cuts.

Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Sauvignon

Arizona Wine

Cabernet Franc is a red wine grape from France.  Cabernet Franc is one of the major black grape varieties worldwide and the parent grape of both Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious red wine grape from Bordeaux, France. It is a natural cross between Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc.

Counoise

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon

Counoise is a dark-skinned red wine grape from the Rhone Valley region of France.  The availability of Counoise grapes/wine is limited, the late harvest date discourages many producers from growing this varietal.

Falanghina

Malvasia Bianca

Malvasia Bianca

Falanghina originated in Southwestern Italy in the region of Campania. This white grape produces refreshing flavors of green apple, melon, and pear with tropical fruit notes. Falanghina is not commonly found in Arizona!

Malvasia Bianca

Malvasia Bianca

Malvasia Bianca

Malvasia Bianca is Italy's most widely planted white varietal and produces slightly sweet flavors of honey, peaches, pear, and green apple. Enjoy smooth aromatic notes of tropical fruit perfect for Summer sipping.

Montepulciano

Malvasia Bianca

Montepulciano

Montepulciano showcases aromas of red cherries and anise with a medium body and a long oak dried finish. Beef brisket, barbecue, and rich tomato-based meals pair divinely with our Montepulciano.

Nebbiolo

Montepulciano

Nebbiolo was made famous by the Barolo region of Piedmont where wines offer delicate aromas accompanied by strong tannins. pair this varietal with a hearty beef pasta to see what makes it so sought after!

Sangiovese

Sangiovese is a popular Italian red wine grape with wide versatility. The higher acidity pairs well with a variety of vegetable and spice-driven foods.

Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc is an enormously popular French white grape. You'll find herbal flavors and racy acidic wine. Primary flavors include grapefruit, peach, and green melon.
